Video of Tooker’s experiences after being released from jail following his direct action against Ralph Klein. Tooker locked himself in Klein’s vault and faxed messages to the media. The lost document was a report that claimed that ratifying the Kyoto accord would be
beneficial to Alberta’s economy.

The first class of Globalization since 1492 broadcast on TOTV. Video conference with Tooker from a Starbucks in New York, where he was escorted out of Starbucks by the NYPD. A review before the midterm.

Continuation of midterm review. Wal-Mart; corporations as natural persons; Ruth Benedict and Franz Boas; Cultural Relativism, Post-modernism, monocultures, Media consolidation, partition.

Part 6

More Review, Jean Bertrand Aristide; Hugo Chavez; Balfour Declaration; the World Social Forum; Gandhi, Wade Davis, diaspora, decolonization.

Part 7
Presentation on endangered languages and the threat to linguistic diversity in the world that goes along with globalization. Roughly 6000 languages in the world, at least half are seriously in danger of dying out. Linguistic diversity is tied to biodiversity. Language in Canada, other than French and English.

Part 8
Linguistics presentation continues. Changing the focus of linguistics, to studying dying languages. The church as a source of killing off languages, and often the first source of translation. Problems with isolated groups and census taking.

Part 9
Why languages die; genocide, economic destruction, demographic submersion, electronic media. When a language dies, the knowledge incorporated in that language is lost as well. Domain separation.
